MASL Marlow vs Windsor

Sunday saw Windsor maintain their good form as they travelled to Marlow. After been asked to bat on what looked a very good wicket the Windsor openers Paul Huggins and Matt Greene soon set about the Marlow attack. Windsor were well on the way to big total when Huggins fell to the bowling of Bateman for 40 with the score on 92 in the 19th over. The middle order then all made contributions supporting Greene until he was dismissed for 65 mis-hitting an attempted pull shot. However, Thompson and Gould with some big hitting towards the end saw Windsor on to 244-8 despite a flurry of late wickets that saw Kreusch pick up the scalps of Condon and Griffiths.

In reply Marlows innings got off to a flier despite the early losses of Dickinson and Wrighton. South African star Kreusch flayed the Windsor attack to all parts of the ground ably supported by youngster Hudson. The introduction of Gould and Endacott to the attack stemmed the flow of runs. As the overs ran out the pressure started to tell and Kreusch was stumped off the bowling of Thompson for a superb 158 and Hudson soon departed to the bowling of Mark Huggins. From there on in Marlow failed to gain any momentum as wickets tumbled leaving them 15 runs short of Windsor’s total.

MASL Windsor vs Tiddington

Windsor were back to winning ways on Sunday with a fine victory over Tiddington. Batting first Tiddington found runs came at a steady rate. O’Shannessey struck first for Windsor dismissing Morgan for 9. This brought Organ to the crease carried on the scoring before falling to Edge. The introduction of Condon of Griffiths brought some control to the scoring with Griffiths removing Mackie and Organ. However, with wickets in hand Tiddington were always on for a score and some hitting from Evans, Maule and Brookes at the end Tiddington finished on 219-7 off their allotted 40 overs. Griffiths was the pick of the Windsor bowlers returning figures of 3-37.

Windsor openers Huggins and Chorley entered the game struggling for form with just one run between them in each of their last three innings. After a tentative start though both batsman started to play their shots with Huggins driving the ball hard through the covers. Both batsman completed their 50’s before Chorley fell to Manger for 60 with Windsor well on their way to Tiddington’s total. This brought Gould to the crease who picked up where Chorley left off. As Windsor neared the finishing line though Huggins was bowled by Brookes. However, some intelligent running by Gould and Greene saw Windsor home to an 8 wicket victory.

MASL Burnham vs Windsor

Windsor’s Sunday League campaign got off to a poor start when they were easily defeated by a strong Burnham side on Sunday. After a rain interruption the game was reduced to 30 overs per side.
On winning the toss Burnham elected to bat and immediatley set about the Windsor attack with Eclas and Choudhrey playing shots all round the wicket. It was the introduction of Gould to the bowling attack who re-introduced some control to the game removing Choudrey for 33. More success then followed when Endacott bowled Imran for 6.
However, this only brought to the crease Fazal who played a flurry of strokes before been dismissed by Chorley for 42. By now Burnham were well on their way to posting a big total. Some hitting at the end from Kahn and Hughes saw the Burnham innings close on an imposing 198 – 6 from their 30 overs. Windsor were left to wonder what might have been though after a number of dropped catches.
In reply Windsor got off to a disastrous start losing Chorley in the third over. However, Davis looked to push the Windsor innings on with a number of fine strokes through the off side. His departure for 29 though led to the Windsor middle order succumbing for a number of low scores as they failed to make any real attempt at Burnham’s total. The Windsor innings closed at 123-8 with Bird finishing on 67 not out.

Windsor Slump against the odds

Despite being the Bookies favourite, Windsor fell at the last to an inspired Royal Ascot side at the Home Park on Sunday.

On winning the toss Windsor entered the paddock full of confidence. However, Chorley pulled up in the first furlong, and despite a brief flurry of strokes Gould soon followed. This started a batting collapse which left Windsor not even at the races struggling to 98 – 8. A combination of poor strokes and good bowling by the Ascot attack left Windsor reeling. It was down to the less fancied horses to retrieve the situation. A partnership of 43 by O’Shannesey (35) and the inspired Endacott (32) saw Windsor through to 161-9 off their 40 overs. Sweetman been the pick of the Ascot bowlers finishing with impressive figures of 5 –23.

The final furlongs saw Ascot get off to a solid start before Edge removed Partridge for 26. However, this only brought to the race Tindale who continued the good work. The Windsor bowlers struggled to take wickets as rain started to fall, leaving the ground good to soft. Mark Huggins removed Baker and Edge accounted for Harding shortly after as Windsor looked to pull themselves back into contention. Wickets continued to fall in the final 10 overs to set up a tense finish with Gould and O’Shannesey leading the charge grabbing two wickets a piece. However, the Windsor total proved not to be enough as Ascot romped home by a length and a half, winning with 5 balls to spare.
